Barack Obama in Lafayette
Barack Obama was in town today. I stood in line yesterday with my friends, Ed and Ed, to get two tickets for Amy and myself. The event was at Lafayette Jefferson High School. It was a cold and rainy/windy evening.
The event was held in the gym. By the time we made our way through security (metal detectors and you had to leave your umbrellas in a pile outside) most of the seats were taken and the bleachers were full. Our only choice was to stand up on the 2nd level balcony. It was a great view but just a lot of standing for two and a half hours. We felt bad for any late arriving short people that were standing behind us.
Our camera isn't that great so this is the best shot I snapped from that distance:

As everybody says, Obama is indeed a great orator. There wasn't anything new or that I haven't heard him say since I've been following his campaign. He touched on health care, energy, education and the war in Iraq. He spoke for about 30 minutes then took questions from the audience.
Amy and I were glad that we got the chance to see him. It's not that often that you get to see a possible future President of the United States (crosses fingers).
A special thanks to our good friends Lindsay and Mike who graciously offered to watch Alex for us while we attended the event. They even made us dinner that was ready when we got back! They're the best.

Go Obama! We will be in town (SB) next week and staying with my staunch Republican sister. Oh boy. This should be interesting. I hope he comes back in town while we're there. I already voted for him in the Dems Abroad vote on Super Tuesday. Too bad I can't vote again in the absentee ballot...hee hee.2008 Mike and Amy Focosi
