10 Random Facts
A couple of my friends, Emily and Renay, shared random facts on their blogs recently and I thought I would join in.  I know I've shared some on here in the past and don't want to repeat myself, but there are only so many things to know about me :-)

1) My middle name is Nicole.  I especially like it because I don't think I've ever met another Amy Nicole although I know they're out there.  But also because my mom's maiden name is Nicolini (Italian) and I feel like my middle name may stem from it, but I don't know for sure...probably no correlation.  Is there one, mom???

2) I have never had any broken bones and don't have much of a medical history, really.  I have had 2 surgeries in my life.  One that I mentioned here.  And the other was a muscle correction surgery on my left eye when I was in 3rd grade.  It didn't do the trick, but I wore a patch for a short period of time, aargh (in pirate voice).  Oh wait, I had all of my wisdom teeth out at once, too, so I guess I've had 3 surgeries, oops.  Just remembered that one.

3) Speaking of eyes, I've worn glasses since 3rd grade.  Early on I wore tinted glasses...normal indoors, tinted in the sunlight, aah, so classy, right?  Ha...embarrassing. I do squint terribly in the sunlight to this day. Don't get me started on how big they made those plastic framed glasses back then and in such a plethora of colors.  I have some BAD pictures to prove it...they took up my whole face.  Mike LOVES to tease me about them.  I got hit many times in the face with balls during recess in elementary school...typically I wasn't even playing the game!!  One time I was standing around with friends not even paying attention to a game of kickball going on only to get blindsided in the face.  The glasses broke and cut my cheek, fun stuff.

4) I used to sing in a small women's choir in junior high and some of high school at our church with my mom.  We were the youngest by far...all of the other ladies had white hair :-)  The choir robes were (still are?) maroon and mauve, eww.

5) I don't have a good memory when it comes to my childhood, I wish I did.  No vivid memories, only vague recollections.  It's kinda sad :-(

6) I cannot wink, curl my tongue, or whistle.  Other things Mike makes fun of me about...and now Alex does as well.  Since Mike has taught him to wink and give a thumbs up when he likes something.  It's the cutest thing and he constantly tries to teach me how to wink.

7) I am a very competitive Scrabble player.  So is Mike.  It's pretty intense when we play together.  A lot of strategy involved, blocking each other, etc.  We take FOREVER to put a word down.  We are not very fun to play with!

8) Speaking of spelling, I was the top speller in my elementary school in 4th, 5th, AND 6th grades, which meant I went to the city-wide spelling bee.  I did okay when I was in 4th, but I was a baby compared to those 6th graders.  I didn't feel like going in 5th so I let this kid who was the alternate go.  And I WON the city-wide bee in 6th grade.  Exciting stuff.  Picture in the paper with my big glasses and all.  Just think, if I would have actually gone to it in 5th I could have been a two-time champion, haha.  I bombed at the county spelling bee, oh well.  My mom used to practice spelling words with me (we had a HUGE book of words to study) on the other side of the curtain while I took my baths.

9) My parents divorced when I was in kindergarten.

10) Mike and I are celebrating 5 years of marriage in June.  Where should we go for a short getaway for a few days?  Needs to be within a day's drive.

Sorry I couldn't stick to 10 random statements...I'm too wordy!!!

I love learning new things about people! Do you still sing? My mom had such ugly glasses in junior high (so I've heard) that she threw them out the bus window on her way home from school once and lied and told my grandma that she lost them. Yep, Darla was quite the trouble-maker! :)

I love you so much and for so many reasons. This post pretty sums them all up. You are just far too wonderful for words.

Kara - Wed April 2, 2008, 9:50 pm

Oh my goodness- you are a hoot!
I can sooo relate to giant glasses-
mine covered half my face. I didn't
know you were part Italian! Cool!
I've always been fascinated with
Italian people-guess I think of
food. By the way, you are a great
writer and I could hear your voice
talking as I read it.. that's good
writing!!!!

Oh man I stink at spelling. When we had to take those achievment tests in elementary I scored on average from 16-32%, thank goodness my math skills were in the 92-98%. I had those big glasses for years. It's funny to see pictures with the progression of glasses size. Even when JayP and I started dating, over 10 years ago now, how big my glasses still were.

I love it! Wow, I had those big glasses, too. Except mine were square and an ugly color. You are a very clever writer, too.

Do you ever play Literai on Yahoo Games? It is virtual scrabble. I love it. I almost always get beat because there are people out there who do nothing but sit and play that.

Anyway, thanks for playing the random facts game...I love learning more about my friends.

Love, Emily

I guess I need to swipe this topic for my own blog...

I had the big ugly glasses too. Mine were pink.

Drew and I, too, are vicious scrabble players. We block and do whatever we can to stop the other from scoring points. I enjoyed your random thoughts!

Mom - Tue April 1, 2008, 7:29 am

First of all, are you kidding me on #1?!? Of course I chose Nicole because of Nicolini! I can't believe you didn't know that-I guess you never asked and I never said - wow! #4 - yes indeedy those lovely robes are still being worn every Sunday by the women and men choir members at St. Johns. PS - You have more childhood memories than you think - you rattled off several in this post!

Renay - Tue April 1, 2008, 12:38 am

You are so funny. I didn't know lots of those things. You and Tim should so have a spell-off!!! We use the official Scrabble timer to keep slowbies like you and Mike from making things slow and boring;-) We block a lot too though-I'll take 6 points for the word "to" in order to triple word score block Tim;-) So, if you were in a choir, does that mean you are a good singer?
