5 Secrets About Me
I have been tagged by my friend, Beth, to share 5 secrets about myself. I cannot believe I'm doing this. Here it goes....
1. I still wear retainers about every other night (I got new ones a couple of years ago rather than wearing the ones from high school) because my teeth will shift/separate if I don't wear them for a few days.
2. When I drank (on occasion..somewhat heavily) in college, I had the urge to pick people up (LIFT them...not take them home with me:-). Usually friends/acquaintances, male or female. I just felt I had superhuman strength and wanted to show it. Let's just say I was known for it, haha. Also, my best friend, Lara, considered me a little "aggressive" (definition--a mean/obnoxious drunk), whatever...I was fun. We did get in a "swing fight" one night while on a playground when alcohol was involved. It was harmless, for the most part.
3. I got 2 speeding tickets about 5 years ago (within 6 months, or so, of each other)..ugh. Not fun. I opted (or was I forced?) to take a course (by video) so I wouldn't have so many points on my license? I forget why exactly, but I did.
4. When I was 23, I had major, invasive surgery for hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms). Neuro and thoracic surgeons cut the nerves that controlled the sweating to my palms. They had to deflate a lung and I had chest tubes. I was in the ICU for a couple of days. I have some small scars on my chest and at my armpits. The recovery was very painful, but I do not regret having the surgery done. I admit it was unique and a little radical, but it is something I had thought long and hard about. I had tried many other options in the past and nothing worked. Some people couldn't understand why I would have this surgery for "just sweaty palms." It was something I had dealt with since junior high and had gotten progressively worse. It was very inhibiting and embarrassing in so many ways (not to mention...getting schoolwork/papers wet that I was working on, dangerous while driving (hands slippery on steering wheel)...the list goes on and on. Anyway, the surgery was a success and my hands NEVER sweat. I have to carry lotion in my purse now (something I never had to do before) because my hands get dry in the cold months just like everyone else's.(WHEW!...that was a big one to share).
5. If we have chunky ice cream (such as Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or Moose Tracks) in the house, I have been known to grab a spoon and the carton and just eat some of the chunks. The look on Mike's face when he goes to scoop out some ice cream is priceless. It usually involves a sigh and a "WTF?!" and he sadly opts not to eat any ice cream and returns it to the freezer. I feel bad. Therefore, I have not bought chunky ice cream for a while...I think our marriage is better because of it. :-)
If anyone else wants to share any of their secrets in the comments section, feel free. I sure put myself out there, didn't I? Yikes!

OK here's a secret. In college I too occassionally drank too much and I was known for the OTHER kind of pick up. It was only one particularly bad night, actually. I even tried to kiss my future husband, out of nowhere, who at the time was engaged to someone else. Very embarrassing. Also, my two front teeth will separate if I don't wear my retainer a few times a month.
And my palms are sweating annoyingly right now! Although probably not to the extent that you suffered. With me, it's caffeine that does it.
I'm glad the surgery was a success!

You crack me up. Don't you also give high fives when you drink too much? hehehAnd wow. #4? I never even heard of such a thing! I had no idea.
Oh, and... I need to get a new retainer myself. I lost mine when we moved and my teeth are all messed up. :(

I also have an IceCream secret. I'm trying to limit myself to icecream once a week. So usually every Sunday my husband and I go out for icecream. What he didn't know for almost a year is that every Saturday I get a shake on my way in to work. He just recently found out and was shocked. I guess I have been lying to myself as well as keeping it from him as if a shake isn't true icecream.Lara - Thu January 18, 2007, 7:41 pm
Oops! I bet you figured out that last one was from me.Anonymous - Thu January 18, 2007, 7:40 pm
I have to say that none of those was a surprise. I might point out though, that I may have gotten a few bruises when your "superhuman" strength failed and I was dropped to the ground!:)Mom - Mon January 15, 2007, 8:45 pm
I see your friends & family (including me!) are not as willing to "lay it out there!" I feel pretty good I knew about 3 of your 5!Beth F. - Sun January 14, 2007, 5:14 pm
Doesn't it feel good? LOL!Okay, so #2 had me CRACKING UP! Seriously, and then #3, OMG, what a secret! I've never heard of such a thing. Your lung was deflated, chest tubes, ICU? HOLY CRAP. Nice secret, Amy! I'm so glad everything has worked out!
Thanks for participating!
