Day 8 - Tuesday July 1st, 2003
Overslept. Our alarm didn't go off. Amy did not set it correctly. Got to Sea World by 11am.
Cost $90.00 for 2 adults - ridiculous! (plus $7.00 parking!)
Started to wait in line for first Shamu show (11:30) but the line was terribly long.
Saw several shows in a row - Sea Lions/otters, Dolphins, Pets Rule and Shamu! All were very entertaining. We were out in the hot sun all day. Got quite burned.
At one point, wanted to get pizza for lunch but the line was so long-it was very crowded for a Tuesday!
Got double scoop ice cream cones instead.
Did the Arctic Blast "ride"- just a simulated helicopter ride. Made Amy feel a little sick.
Saw exhibits of all kinds of fish, sharks, penguins, manatees, walruses,, polar bears, and whales.
Waited in line for R.L. Stine (Goosebumps) Huanted House (4-D). Got into theater (with our 3-D glasses). Seemed like it would be lame at first but ended up being entertaining. It was a short movie starring two kids and Christopher Lloyd. Also Lea Thompson and the guy that played Lenny on Laverne and Shirley. The seats vibrated and things came out at you (3D). Got wet 3 times during the movie! (Apparently the 4th dimension in 4D is physical sensations). Weird Al Yankovic was a waiter at the end. Seemed out of place.
Both of us got a churro for a snack.
Finished up looking around some gift shops. Bought baby Nick a stuffed penguin. Once again, mike would not let Amy buy anything nor get a caricature. Nor get a picture of us sitting on top of a fake Shamu.
Left Sea World around 5:45pm.
Drove to Little Italy. Went to Filippi's Pizza Grotto (Amy's idea). Best meal of the trip, finally! Was the place we've been looking for all along. Red and white checkered tableclothes, wine bottles hanging from the ceiling. Awesome traditional Italian menu. We sat by the kitchen (oh well). Ordered garlic cheese bread and a sausage, pepperoni, mushroom pizza. All was delicioso!
Cruised downtown/Gaslamp area one last time (trying to use up the gas we paid for in the rental car. The Focus!)
Bought magazines, toothpaste (rip -off!) from hotel gift shop.
Packed to go home the next day! It was a fun and relaxing trip!
