Day 6 - Sunday June 29th, 2003
Slept in...again! Layed around and watched tv. Discussed our "plans" for the day, but really wanted to relax and lay by the pool for once.
Got ready and went to pool around noon. Went for a swim right away - very busy pool. Lots of kids and families.
Laid out in the sun for a while. When mike took off his shirt, his white chest blinded most people!!! Needed some sunblock on it! Laid out/read magazines etc for about 1 ½ hours. Mike was getting bored and complaining about "no lunch." Waah! He walked around a little while Amy soaked in the sun. Got a menu from "Waterworks" outdoor grill (hotel restaurant). Prices were ridiculous! $11.00 for a hamburger! Mike had only brought $7 cash to the pool. Settled on a $5.00 strawberry smoothie. Drank that together, then went back to the room.
We got some sun! Finally Mike doesn't look quite so pasty!
Had some chips & salsa in room. Got ready for dinner.
Wanted to have early dinner, then walk on the boardwalk in Pacific Beach and watch the sunset.
Looked in our Frommer's book. Although we had Italian the day before, the book highly recommended what they described as a "mom & pop" Italian place in Pacific Beach. Cafe Bella Italia. So we thought we'd try it out. Described it as being in an old dry cleaners and an "underwhelming street prescence." It ended up being quite different than described. Was actually quite modern outside (not borderline dingy like we thought it would be). And the food/menu was not as traditional as Amy had hoped. The menu described their food as "Northern Italy cuisine." We were the 1st customers in there at 5:30! Amy ordered lasagna (in bolognese suace). Mike - spinach/ricotta ravioli. Dipped bread in oil/vinegar. Lasagna was a little bland. But it was a nice dinner.
Walked to the beach/boardwalk. Ended up being much crazier than we thought. Very young crowd, very busy! Homeless. Lots of drinking/partying going on the Boardwalk.
Amy realized she dropped her sweater somewhere. We ended up going back and retracing steps. No success! This put Amy in a bad mood.
Got Dairy Queen.
No real sunset. Ended up being overcast over the beach.
We wanted to leave. Felt a litle uncomfortable in the surroundings.
Back to hotel. Watched Law & Order: Crime & Punishment (takes place in San Diego).
