Day 4 - Friday June 27th, 2003

  • Foggy morning.

  • Ate left over pizza (cold) for breakfast and watched video from zoo.

  • Late morning - got ready late, not much planned for the day.

  • Watched old Rob Lowe movie on showtime. ("Illegally Yours") Slapstick comedy caper from the eighties.

  • Drove to IMAX theater in Balboa Park (running late, running late!) for 1:00 show. Didn't think we'd make it but we did.

  • Watched "Kilimanjaro." 40 minute show at IMAX about tallest mountain in Africa! Mike did not fall asleep.

  • Walked through some of Balboa Park. A beautiful and sunny day. Neat architecture, museums, flowers, fountains, etc.

  • Drove to "Mission Valley" in search of a mall. Did not quite find this mall. Discovered a shopping strip that included Borders, Marshalls, and DSW Shoe Warehouse. Mike stopped in Borders, amy bought black sandals at DSW.

  • Had not eaten for a while, stopped in Espresso place. Both got "White Mocha Dreams" (frozen drinks - yum) and shared a lemon bar.

  • Still did not discover the Mission Center Mall, but came across Fashion Valley Mall.

  • Pretty fancy, outdoor (2 levels) mall. Had never seen anything like it.

  • All kinds of high-brand stores, which we had only ever heard about but never been in.

  • Bought a smaller pale yellow "Dietz" lantern from Williams-Sonoma.

  • Henry & David Store - various neat foods. Bought some yummy red licorice sticks and Moose Crunch- chocolate covered nuts.

  • Came across Kiosk with personailzed gifts, including CD's with children's songs. Inserting any name you want. We bought one for Mike's niece, Alaina.

  • Ate at Pizzaria Uno Chicago Bar & Grill in the mall. Got onion pedals (appetizer). Mike = steak with skinless baked potato (that's California for ya!) Amy = steak terriyaki with veggies and rice. Discovered there is a Pizzaria Uno in Merrillville, IN. Kinda like Friday's or Applebee's but with pizza.

  • Stopped at Walgreens for sun block, eyeglass repair kit (my sunglasses kept falling apart) and picked up my 1st roll of pictures.

  • On way out of Walgreens saw a mark on passenger door of our brand new red Focus rental. Thought it was bird poop, it wasn't. Californians are such assholes about others' property - a nice nick in the paint. A bummer! The 2nd scratch on car in just a few days.

  • Went to Von's grocery for pop, chips, salsa and rum. Mike was jumping around crazy. Had to go to the bathroom very badly!

  • To hotel - dropped Mike off at main door so he could go ASAP.

  • Retired to the room for the night. Drank Rum and Pepsi's (out of coke at Von's!) and watched our "free" in-room movie - "National Security" with Martin Lawerence. No Oscar winner.
