Day 2 - Wednesday June 25th, 2003
Drove to Coronado Island (actually a peninsula in the harbor south of Downtown).
Amy drove over the Coronado bridge. It's interesting because it turns to the right. Practically a 90 degree angle.
Parked and started walking around-a beautiful day.
Saw navy planes and helicopters flying overhead and landing.
Orange St. is the main drag in Coronado filled with all kinds of shops and restaurants. (the "island" is a city. Population 26,000).
Walked all along the outside of the famous Hotel Coronado. Seems like only rich people stay there.
Had lunch at the Miracle Mile Deli. All kinds of neat sandwiches to choose from. Very good food. Amy got a turkey with side of pasta salad. Mike = ham with french fries. He put some horseradish on his sandwich. Said it was hot! We ate outside on the patio.
Walked along Orange St. Went into a cute bookstore (Bay Books). Amy bought "Diary of a Mad Mom-To-Be." (Sequel to "Diary of a Mad Bride.") "Exciting! I love that author!" :-)
Stopped at the Coronado Bakery on our walk back to car. Amy got macademia cookie, mike peanut butter. Sat in car and ate cookies. Switched cookies. :-)
Drove back to hotel and took a nap.
Drove to the Padres game. Traffic on the highways was scary! Mike & Amy yelling at each other...again. Stressful!
Walked around the concourse area of Qualcomm Stadium (last season for Padres here. Moving to Petco Park downtown). Mike bought a white Padres t-shirt.
We looked and looked for food that sounded good (to Amy). Finally decided on a BBQ place. BBQ beef sandwhich sounded good to Amy. Waited in line only to be told they were out of beef! No thanks then. Amy was VERY disappointed.
Found our seats.
Amy got up shortly after, in search of food. Just came back with hotdogs, coke, and a churro (big cinnamon stick. the west coast equivalent to the elephant ear?).
Amy was admiring family with cute baby boy next to us most of the game.
At one point, fans kept trying to do the wave. Finally successful although there were many empty seats.
Two homeruns were hit. The jumbotron (big screen) showed fans throughout.
Sang "Take me out to the Ball Game." We left after the 7th inning stretch.
Took Friars road (instead of interstate). It was much easier.
Saw fireworks over Sea World while driving.
Got back to hotel. Went to hotel desk to fix swipe card problem at the parking gate. Could never get out of lot. Frustrating! Got a free in room movie out of it. But really think Amy was swiping wrong.
Mike kept falling asleep in the middle of changing channels on TV. Would end up on blank screen, wake up for a second, flip channel again, left on blank screen because he fell asleep again. Dork!
